UFC 118 of three stars: Edgar, Couture and Diaz

Taking a look at the best and worst of the UFC's first foray into Boston.

N ° 1 star--Frankie Edgar: some samples have ever had to win two battles to be considered a champion, but that's exactly what he had to do Edgar. After beating former champ lightweight B.j. Penn at UFC 112, Edgar was commissioned to do it again to 118. not only did he respond to the challenge without censorship, fought better than he did at 112, beating definitely Penn in all five rounds of their attack.

No. 2 star--Randy Couture: from his bout with James Toney was billed vs boxing MMA, Couture was to defend the honour of MMA. "Captain America" managed work skillfully, taking down Toney and knock on him, before submitting to him.

No. 3 star--Nate Diaz: in his second fight at welterweight, Diaz survived a barrage of Marcus Davis soon in the fight, added a deformity head Davis ' and then guillotine Davis choked up until he passed.Although Diaz said that he wants to return to light welterweight appears as a natural home for him.

Dishonorable Mention--Kenny Florian: Fighting in front of the hometown fans, Florian was unable to obtain an offense going against Gray Maynard. a victory here would give Florian a lightweight belt heist. He had also Dana White saying that has smothered in big fights.

Some of the media of the old guard of Boston not impressed by the MMA

MMA is not for everyone. We know that. Too often when people from 50-plus demographic talk sport complain violence and blood. So it profiles like no shocker that there was complaining by veterans writers like Bob Ryan and Dan Shaugnessy. But they took a different position both pointing out that they don't see what it was about all the emotions.

"In all honesty, I'm just saying the truth. The biggest revelation that I got from that night at the garden of expenditure was how astonishingly BOOOOORRING this thing is, "Ryan said of the New England of the NSC" sports Tonight. ""Is the most overrated ... don't understand the appeal remotely. not enough blood, there's enough action."

Ryan said the first fight on pay-per-view between Marcus Davis and Nate Diaz was solid, but he doesn't enjoy the work on the ground in the subsequent struggles.

"The fans don't like the wrestling," said Ryan, who is now an expert after taking on a single card MMA live.

Ryan also knows as knowledgeable each participation in 15,000-plus were.

"There are a sophisticated some martial arts experts who appreciate when there is a well executed martial move to create a slideshow, Yes, that's not the majority, is a small minority," said Ryan.

Apparently, Ryan spoke with a lot of fans to discover what they enjoy.

"People want to see Boxing, slugging it and you want to see when a guy gets punched down his face, that's what gets us excited is the most boring nonsense," said Ryan."Most of the fighting in the first, and granted was described to me as the first practice, wadding, attacks are boys in wrestling matches in which were badly collegiate wrestling with nothing happens."

Who gave Ryan that description? Someone on line press? we would love to know what says MMA regular media the first fights are "batting practice".

That's because it shows how "Sports Tonight the NSA" and "Around the Horn of the ESPN" are sometimes unbearable. the Panel consists of old dudes media that is the word for the fans, but most have not had anything beyond a 10 second conversation with a fan in 10 years.

The crew of the CSN embedded video was mainly pro-MMA. long boxing and NFL scribe Ron Borges has more than given MMA a fair shake. He is the "expert" in this Panel. Unfortunately, you can't count on one hand the number of writers who really have embraced boxing MMA.

Check out the lead host Mike Felger, he describes the fight Davis-Diaz as sort of macabre and then says he loved!

Toney taxation thick as approaches UFC 118

There is no trust, trash talk and combat hype and then there's what James Toney. Toney is pulling out all the big guns for his UFC debut MMA to 118. The Boxer heavy sounds like he has had a career of Floyd Mayweather behind him. Toney (72-44, 6 KOs) said Heavy that he is the undisputed heavyweight boxing King, he is a banger and King of drilling. That's all great but let's go step this struggle against Randy Couture based on certain facts.

Toney is far from the undisputed heavyweight boxing King. Just because you have moved the world MMA doesn't mean you can outright fib on your boxing career. It is true that the Klitschkos have avoided Toney. But can you blame them. This is not fear. Simply there is nothing to be gained, and don't sell these clashes. Toney was at the end of his rope in boxing first began harassing UFC President Dana White to allow him in Octagon. Part of this was also because of its packaging. It is difficult to sell a Toney 235-pound of out-of-shape like a boxer legitimate.Toney is also hard sell because he is not a power puncher. he may call itself the King of drilling but until they dropped the Matthew Greer unknown in his latest boxing match, in fact, he had scored a knockout since late 2003.

This is not intended to wring Toney, because his move to MMA has been a blessing. Got the possibility to introduce the same to a whole new audience.MMA fighters Not quite understand how a fight of hype. And Yes, Toney can be a bit over the top, but he knows the basic concepts of game fight. the same struggle is important, but so is promote sport before affray goes down. correspondence to present some intrigue, but we hope that people don't buy into the hype of Toney too and come away disappointed if he gets dumped on his head and you lose in 60 seconds.

The world champion boxer turned mixed martial artist of who makes his MMA debut at Saturday's UFC 118, captured the lion's share of media attention during the first day of the week battle.

A pre fight at a press conference at the historic Faneuil Hall overshadowed Toney five times, complex UFC champion Randy Couture, who will be against him on Saturdday.

Is it something like a new role for Couture, who is used in every battle he became a part of which was for the last five years in the spotlight in the main event. This is the main event, and so he is not only in the second billed fight, he has also Toney's incessant promotion deal.

Of course, Couture never exactly a loudmouth from the outset been, and it seems just fine with ceding attention Toney which was to hold his tongue one, never exactly.

"I don't all do talk," said Couture. "Everything is happening in the Käfig.Das everything what counts."

Lesnar should change his camp for Velasquez

Brock Lesnar may not be all brute force, but there is a science much more than it did in the cage. He's not quite the level game-planning by Randy Couture, but Lesnar has developed and executed some good at the beginning of his career.

Erik Paulson, who is worked with Lesnar heavily over the years, it is expected the choke arm-triangle that he scored the victory on Shane Carwin at 116 UFC. But thinks that Cain Velasquez is going to be a different animal and Lesnar will need his field to implement something new for the 23 October fight in Anaheim.

"He is gonna try to bring in guys of quality and make a game plan," Paulson said fighthubtv.com (Mark 6: 00). "I already know that a game plan that would work for him, [but] it's just a word of advice. Whether or not he follows with that, it is up to him. "

Lesnar works out of his gym in Minnesota and its head coach are former NCAA wrestling champ Marty Morgan. before the fight Carwin, had guys like Chris Tuchscherer, Jon Madsen, Cole Konrad in field along with a quick trip from Randy Couture. These guys are all wrestlers for nature. Paulson suggests that cardio plan the first before the Carwin fight must be changed.

"What most of all it is good must Brock sparring partner who can kickbox and gripper. So he got to get some guys in his field that can throw down with good hits, Takedown good and good takedown defense, "Paulson said."I'm sure it will be the goal for the camp to bring in some good strikers."

Paulson may not seem too bullish on his guy, but he stressed that Velasquez has also a big challenge in front of him.

"There is a large difference with Brock," Paulson said Velasquez the 240-pound. "Has a good fighter, so he can stop the stuff, get out of the stuff, [but] I don't know if he is used to go with something that is as big and powerful as Brock. find someone who is actually equally as aggressive and powerful as Brock [hard]. "

The 265-pound Lesnar defends his UFC heavyweight title against Velasquez at 121 UFC.

Shark fights 13: Jardine wants your visit to minors to be fast

Keith Jardine was a gambler and sell a solid contributor of UFC increases over the past five years, but when you have lost four straight and 5-of-6 became rather hard. Jardine supported UFC in the corner and promotion said the former cast member from season 2 of "The Ultimate Fighter" that it was time to hit small circuit of MMA.

Jardine (UFC 15-8, 6-7) was flattered by all offers from smaller promotions. He actually took one of the first fighting that came his way.Shark fights out of Texas offered a fellow UFC veteran in Trevor Prangley. they meet this weekend in Amarillo, Tx. Shark Fights 13.

Jardine wasn't about waiting for UFC change his mind or take time off.

"First of all, all offers that came for the fights were simply amazing and I did feel pretty good. And I just wanted to get a fight as fast as possible and then Shark Fights called immediately-I mean, like, next week-and I accepted the fight, "Jardine said Luke Thomas on WJFK."And then I was in training mode, since then, so I think that after over of this fight, I'm gonna take a couple of weeks ".

Win or lose, Jardine is a free agent after the fight and he will look for the best match possible. "The Dean of Mean "WJFK said that he believes that the UFC would want him to win two clashes first call him back up.

"My goal is always to return to UFC and return in the image title. And we have not made no bones about it, "said Jardine. "We told 'em that that is what this fight is for me the opportunity to return to the ring and get out of the crisis that I have been getting right back to the image in UFC title."

Jardine, 34, is optimistic and he should be.He was well-regarded by UFC President Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva. And frankly in the past two years could have been very different, with a pause or two along the way.Jardine has lost a close decision Quinton Jackson at UFC 96 and thinks his mentality of how attack down the stretch cost him the fight. He also scored jobbed a bit in his last loss against Matt Hamill, when he missed a point about what was really an eye unintentional poke.

Jardine has revealed a surprising nugget that he never received bids or calls from two world's largest promotions, Strikeforce and DREAM.

Prangley, that is really a tweener between 185 and 205 pounds, will not be easy for Jardine. He is a fighter very good and this will make the third straight takedown artist who had to reject Jardine. If he can keep on your feet, Jardine should be able to get to Prangley (UFC 22-6, 2-2). the 38-year-old defensive has slowed down over the years. it would be nice if Jardine could score a quick, emphatic finish as well. Avoiding are fine when you're in the UFC, but probably not the best way to get re-signed by the promotion.

During Prater advanced to the finals, didn ' t do round bout of rich Crunkilton split decision in the way that he lost vorgesehen.Prater, in his opening but was given a chance in the semi-finals if Crunkilton continued because of a rib injury.

Actually, both quarter-finals were winners Crunkilton and Kyle Baker of the tournament was intended for bakers absence gezwungen.keinen reason but was probably due to a nasty cut above his left eye from his grueling quarterfinal victory over James Warfield.Alternativer winner Charlie Brown, coached by WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson, joined and lost to Prater by a majority vote in a very close fight.

Unlike Toney, acts as a true fighter Hunt

Spine of Mark Hunt is against the wall. A veteran of kickboxing, he is a huge MMA fan favorite clubs Japanese. But because he hasn't worked on his ground game, his style has led to a one-dimensional running rough lately in MMA. Hunt has lost five straight and not won since 2006, but he has made his UFC debut at UFC 119 in September. Why? Dana White said the inclusion of hunting was part of the purchase PRIDE Back in 2007. Good news for white are that hunting is not only going to take the money and run.

He said Sherdog back in July that he felt like he had lost much of his career and had not taken seriously his conditioning. From the appearance of the picture on the left hunting (amid) worked his butt.He is regularly about 290 pounds. Hunt is also down to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fl., one of the best gyms grappling/Jiu-Jitsu at home.

No one is saying that James Toney could have beaten Randy Couture if first UFC 118 had worked a little harder. But he could've at least given himself a blow to stay out of the bridge more than 11 seconds, he wasn't come pounds of 237 a career high.Hunt, clearly, has no interest in a production of a similar performance Toney.

Former UFC Fighter Jeff Monson is also pictured (left). He looks a bit leaner. Monson spoke with Strikeforce fighting for promotion in October down to 205 pounds.

How do we fix MMA's acting problems? Training and accountability

There is no get to it, MMA has some problems if it to amtiert. I speak not only of suspicious decisions. I'm talking about befremdliches interpretations of the rules in the cage, including but not limited to bizarre Stand-Ups as, which may or may not have cost former WWE star Bobby Lashley a victory against Chad of Griggs at StrikeForce: Houston last weekend.

In the case of referee, Jon missed it somehow Spritzer (a bit of a history of flubbing calls has), which decided, Lashley get up out of the full mount in the second Runde.Auf first, that it seemed as if he was going to review the section under Lashley's eye, but MMA fighting confirmed that Spritzer actually the fighters to the feet because he felt brought from the top position Lashley was not active enough.

I will stop a moment, that in can take. One of the dominant positions may have had reached, but he lost it, when the referee weren't decided that his occasional bursts of offense enough to keep him to the position he had earned to allow Lashley full mount.

Should happen ever in an MMA fight? Absolutely not, according to the sports erfahrensten referee, "Big" John McCarthy.

""Positions you are those guys out which can stand up because it is neutral or close to neutral,"McCarthy said, adding that guard or half guard are the most common examples."Once you say page has control guy won a dominant position where he really can not be injured, but he can damage his opponent. "If he can damage his opponents from that position, and his opponent can him who is the referee to the devil take it not damage?"

McCarthy itself was once this downfall guilty and only once. At UFC 17 1998 he took the full mount from Jeremy Horn, who currently enjoy was dominant against Frank Shamrock but nothing to do much with it.

"He stayed for over a minute and a half mounted and did nothing."Nothing, "said McCarthy." It was based out and I told him, 'Jeremy gotta you work, do gotta something', and he was based.I told him, "I stand up if not something to do" and he did not."I landed him get up and I felt like hell."

Horn would to go, submission and then McCarthy losing the UFC light heavyweight title fight over Kneebar headed to talk back to the locker room with him.Heard not Horn had employed his warnings, remain McCarthy asked? Horn replied that he heard you loud and clear.

' So I said: "then what were you thinking? '"McCarthy, remembers now." "And he said:"I thought I mounted on Frank Shamrock and I will do anything for me him.""

Laugh now, but back then it was serious. To make the same decision prayer when he is today, McCarthy would, admitted that he not sure he would. The persistent doubts highlights of one of the problems with the status of current MMA: when it comes to things like Stand-Ups, there is a lot which is left to interpret each single arbitrator for yourself.

Take for example the question of dominance.Once a fighter contact the trouble of securing control or mount, in a safe place and his opponent in a very precarious as much work enough to him to stay to justify? There is an average number of beats per minute needing to maintain? does he constantly to set up a kind of a submission, and if so, what is the set-up that is bound from his opponents tip subtle to be, is too subtle for the referee to notice?

Are difficult questions to begin with, and are covered in each referee MMA Guide. When I found out when I spoke with NSAC executive director Keith Kizer, it is not just a formal process for the selection of arbitrators and/or judge and ensure that all a certain base level of knowledge.

It is primarily a matter of turning in a resume showing some experience, have a good track record with some Commission somewhere on the planet and not because of any back child support.Commissions go not only, make sure each referee know what is caught in Mount or know what positions can move a certain template through the trouble and cannot be finished aus.Oft if we find out how much you do not know, is it too late.

How McCarthy put it, "Some people don't understand what the warriors."If a guy in the page control, see that with his shoulder pressure on someone, to move it and open, if you've never been there, how do you know how it is?You do not."It looks like a man laying on another."

This brings us to another problem. You say a referee crazy up.Say it is a major screw up the potentially the result of struggle geändert. Was now? who says the Commission that you again, at least not should use this someone until he proves that he knows what he's doing there?

At the moment, niemand.Es no system are the formal review for MMA refs, according to McCarthy.

"Boxing referee, bewertet.Es get your performance is a Panel as the older referee are retirement so you know that you not attempt to select the grader down, so you you have a better Zuweisung.Aber by the Commission, so that you, class if a show wurde.Und assigned receive typically three to six times a year benotet.Ist the biggest problem, we have that in MMA, who we have to do? we have not this older referee that can do this."

How determined the closest thing we have is a network of experienced refs like McCarthy.Es is never one instance, a great coach diplomas as a major event Bezuggenommen where he then, get a call, said McCarthy.Sie criticism offer each other honest reviews and recommendations for improvement - it is helpful, but it's all informal and unverbindlich.Es does not affect, which selects the Commission to work the next event.

The lack of coherent and consistent guidelines for referees, combined with the lack of any required certification or meaningful performance, well, it's a problem.

The third person in the cage every given fight night has the ability to a profound effect on a fighter's career and paycheck to use are responsible for ensuring security and fairness in each sanctioned Bout.sollten we some official system for make sure that you are performing competent in this task, and some actual consequences for you if you're not?

It has been a difficult week for shine, since the event - originally planned to take place in the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia - moved to Oklahoma due to licensing issues musste.Dass are the organization with less than a week to speak out to potential ticket buyers in the links section, but this is not a problem, said Chambers, because the Casino place holds only about 1,500 people.

"It is a much smaller venue and I not foresee any problem to grab the always enough people there, it out."Actually think I we are about 90% now on three days in advance don't think ausverkauft.Ich we need any issues that are always fans."At the end of the day it is a proof, how well my team put together is."

But after the late change of venue for this fight and cancellation shine fights III in may, the question may be whether the fans in the Organization have lost skills on its promises faith.According to Chambers everyone in the company know that you have to do some work on image of the company, but are confident this time around may make a statement.

"" I know for a fact that when I came into the Organization June you faced branding issues and it is easy to set", said Chambers."I think one of the things people see is that you had done two shows before the [cancelled may 15] show these shows went without a hitch, had big names on you, everyone got paid and everyone was happy.

"With the last event I was on the other hand of the Zauns.Ich was a Kommentator.Ich saw how things entfaltet.Es appears to me that it malicious gab.Die media, on understanding wanted oh, these guys trying these evil things is not the Fall.Ich tun.Das would not for businesses, company, and a learning experience would be in the if this the case wäre.Ich think it was only miscommunication."

B.j. Penn is always the star of the show, but not this week to 118 UFC. The legend of lightweight Hawaiian willingly took a back seat to James Toney. Boxer brief conversation and promotional acumen has led the Charter. But make no mistake about it, Toney vs Randy Couture, pure combat is a sideshow (Pro Sherdog picks have 50-3 for Couture) than the UFC Lightweight Title rematch between champ Frank Edgar and Penn.

Penn lost the first matchup via unanimous decision back to 112 UFC. In typical fashion Penn, tried to drum up some drama and Angst + Pfister heading into the fight, but it's not just that it's easy against Edgar, which is fairly benign with the spoken word. So the question again for Penn is the motivation. He is fired? He will be altering his style and work harder to win? otherwise, he will have two losses in a row, and then what motivates him to return and get better?

On his way from the arena, he was under fire from the fans. "I beer that is thrown at me, popcorn it was fantastic," said Kosova check.

Kosova check had no idea if he got his second shot at St-Pierre (he lost a unanimous decision to him at UFC 74 in August 2007), he did back in Montreal.UFC 124 held 11 finds at the Bell Centre on Dec., as first reported by MMA fighting.

But Kosova check said, makes the situation to him.

"I honestly no matter where we are fighting, really," said Kosova check. "I will fight anywhere." So, it looks like I'm going back to Montreal. Montreal - the fans are - and I have a wonderful relationship. And I appreciate the opportunity to become the next welterweight champion. ..."I'm gonna irrespective of having fun, whether it really care war.Ich in Pittsburgh, Vegas or Montreal me not."

Kosova check declined in comparison to St-Pierre, which debuts Wednesday on Spike TV after UFC fight night 22 easy to say that "it was a good experience" and fans should respond to see every possible interaction between him and St-Pierre many details about his coaching stint the show "The Ultimate Fighter".

But he was much less reluctant about the recent controversy with comments referee, Yves Lavigne allegedly about Kosova check's chances against St-Pierre in a story in Canoe.com made.Although Lavigne, later denied the MMA hour, ever an interview on the site, and the story was removed, Kosova check was adamant that the he never fight a competition of Lavigne officiated.

"He has denied doing the interview it has denied never to say the comments," said Kosova check."Whether it should be on the plate or off the record, an arbitrator is never a fighter publicly erklären.Yves Lavigne can suck his opinion on my (expletive) it will never REF, which again only due to the fact that.. its opinion my existence could affect me, and this is not fair."It is not correct.People are out there say 'Josh Kosova check tried Lavigne, Yves fired get.'"No, Yves Lavigne got opening released from his mouth, if it does."

Lavigne Helwani later told the show: "I give him an interview on or off record.""Who are my quotes."

But as Lavigne also said, "The damage was done."Kosova check went on to say, he believes that Lavigne should be the reigning business.

"" Yves Lavigne, whether he it or not, not with my career, I take this type of risk, either said to have which could have said such things about me (Mein Kampf amtierenden), Guy ", said Kosova check. So I to good referee stick will: Josh Rosenthal, herb Dean - these two guys ref can my fighting anyone not ref everything allowed would never see day which week ....(Avril_Lavigne) should be, a professional sports such as the NFL and NBA (have) an official to say something like that, and in fact still retain their jobs."

As for his next task at hand, the title shot against St-Pierre, Kosova check said it expected that a different battle from your first meeting.

"" I think that differ this fight because of the fact I have matured and become as a fighter, ", said Kosova check."I think, will.Ich make white Georges St-Pierre a sporting event instead of a fight, he goes me down to try and put on mich. Also I really focused on all realistic to sein.Georges is a complete Kämpfer.Er has definitely standup fähigkeit.Aber I think he has some weaknesses."

How resolve do to a problem such as Antonio?

It is appropriate, his last could be that we have so time wrestler discuss much and rings on MMA fight because tonight marks the return of Antonio McKee in a fight against this week, he claims.

When Luciano Azevedo MFC 26 as almost all his other battles gone is his struggle, are (i.e. what a decision victory and an anaesthetized audience), who is boring unapologetically MMA fans from Tokyo to New Jersey during his 11 year career, he'll according to McKee, withdraw.

As he told me back in July: "I said, if it's a decision and it's a boring decision I in the ruhestand.Wenn this fight the fight of the night is retired I." "Basically, if I not out there to go and a show only destroy and destroy this guy then I'm done."

Why? not because he does not believe it more can compete. He's pretty sure he can not only compete but other more or less easily dominate each on the planet, even at the age of 40.

No, he says that he will stop because he, for which waited to develop sport and at least as far as he is not concerned.

By developing, I think, it means he waited for fans all together wake up one morning and discover that love to see takedowns and ground control.Bafflingly, has done this yet.

Whether he it or didn't know is McKee was exactly the kind of fighters who speak Dan Hardy if it implies that some wrestlers in violation of the MMA rule against "Timidity." be McKee takes people down, works a little ground and pound, makes very little obvious effort to stop (he is admitted as much in the past), and relies on the judges him the victory.

It's not exciting, but it is effective. Can say much McKee's record has betrachten.Er no battle lost since 2003 (over to diamonds Parisyan... wait for it...) (decision) Although he exactly the cream of the crop has been fighting either not.

But for those of us who defended ply the wrestler's right to his trade in MMA, McKee presented a philosophical problem. His commitment to fighting without ever at risk or even with entertaining fans to win is so complete that it almost borders abuse the scoring system. His salary is paid by fans who want to be entertained, and yet he has never (until now, anyway) hoped you a show.

Seems not, I don't know somehow wrong?

Short answer: Ja.Lange answer: maybe, but the only what worse than watching an Antonio McKee rules fight, this kind of fight would be an impossible rendering manipulation.

I feel about McKee's style and his defence of it the same way I feel about the people who say idiotic things and then claim first amendment protection. In other words, I personally enjoy it, but I respect your right to leveling damage we do would by trying, to stop it would damage far which our delicate sensibilities is done by sitting by it.What he is doing is legal. It is fair.Es is simply fun.

The truth is, McKee is paid a price for his fighting style hat.Er 24-3-2, he has a 10-fight winning strip going and it still takes some outrageous speak and a retirement threat for him which MMA worldwide attention to bekommen.Er may very well be the greatest fighter who would like to see no one and he has only itself to blame.

McKee, doesn't seem surprised, a little bitter darüber.Er will tell you that fans want just blood and then say in the next sentence is not he furiously on fans but the other fighters, the envious will tell sind.Er on him, it is the result of racism, then say it's not about race, at least in his Fall.Auf this way his interviews are more than his fights often entertaining, even if only because so confusing.

But McKee's career is purgatory mainly due to an unofficial fan referendum on his Stil.Seine got their chance wrestling-centric tactics in the marketplace of ideas, and consumers decided she liked it about as much as Crystal Pepsi.McKee dear fans would say what he thinks, as try want what he already knows how to be.

Thats Ordnung.Es is not his Vorrecht.Aber means that someone sorry, complains for him as he is about should feel overlooked.

And when this career ends - theoretically - with another boring performance in Canada today evening, well, that would almost be a fitting way for him to go: lying above on an opponent, while the amount of licences hits.

Suddenly tried soft spoken, BJ Penn, emphasis back to combating roots

BOSTON--at 31 years old feels BJ Penn time slipping away. Almost a decade ago he was a 22 year old prodigy, as a sport nascent seemed one-man evolution. Since he was the guy who seemed to come up short in the big fight. He became a two Division Champion. Now he's practically an elder statesman.

For all his immense talent has Penn to go with him the epic career, had even though this "epic" has so much to do with peaks and valleys of the high drama as it that casual "Epic" that gets passed around from this generation something amazing to bedeuten.Penn's recent setback came in April when he by massive underdog Frankie Edgar in Abu Dhabi was upset.

Since Penn been preternaturally calm. This is the man who told Georges St. Pierre, he was ready to fight "to the death," said Sean Sherk he would punish him for the use of steroids and once spent a whole season of "The Ultimate Fighter" Jens Pulver.doch antagonizing, had leadup to say his rematch with Edgar Penn's surprisingly little. And when he spoke he was alternately self-critical self-confident and sometimes, brutally dull.

Trying, there was a topic of Penn's to give, within the last two weeks is that he see as fighters hopes seems convinced, be he also caught been in marketing and with a professional advertising and all the other things that go Athleten.Er came in a competitive and that's the way he wants to go.
I would like to be labeled No champion; I would like to be labeled a fighter.
-BJ Penn
"I love it."I love a contender ", said Penn on Wednesday. After I beat, I know Frankie is UFC policy that I would like to avail of the belt, but I just a guy, all the best fighters fighting, know you what I mean? "I have eight belt at home, no disrespect [on the UFC belt], but I want only a true fighter to werden.Ich no champion would be labeled; I would like to be labeled a fighter."

What exactly Penn and how it for his UFC 118 applies on Saturday night fight, remains to be seen.

It means that he plans to avoid technology and instead incite a fight? Some believe that a simple way to victory for Penn (15-6-1) may the has the power edge in the standup while Edgar has the superior speed.

Maybe it means forget about game plans and Los Instinkt.Oder maybe it is rather a way of thinking; he has repeatedly made reference to his early days in the UFC, if he was really more a "fighter" as a mixed martial artist.

On the other hand, Penn granted he has had his problems ("I think certain times I lived up to expectations and I don't have specific times definitely" he said at one point), but offered no explanation or excuses, said: "the people which makes me pressure on me, who I regret bin.Ich nothing.""Every time, if you lose you come back stronger."

However, it is something of a crossroads for Penn, who has made no secret of the fact he hopes as the best lightweight in MMA history reminds werden.Seine first as a 155-Pounder dominant war.Da come back to the light Division in 2007, he is 4-1 lead, but a second loss of Edgar badly would his argument as the largest lightweight damage ever.

While with likes of Georges St. Pierre and Matt Hughes, losses would colored him 5-5 over his last 10 fights to make a record pretty ordinary paper looks.

Penn, but says that will not happen.

"" I feel I will blow away a lot of people Saturday, "Penn said.""You will be surprised by who is BJ Penn."

And given this new approach, just who is this?

"" I know not,"Penn said.""This is it here richtig.Ich think I don't know what you say."

If it to assess moment arrived this new Penn Outlook where he thought when he was asked on a scale of 1-10, its performance will be a bottom line.

He said "I think sit here now and are ready to perform on Saturday, I think, I ' ll be on a 9".

Say the fighters would not, he would be a ' 10 ' fight night? but these are the types of answers you from Penn 2010 erhalten.Nicht these days, instead of self-promotion is more trash Talk.In it even Bewusstsein.Nach all these years of wild declarations and trash talk he let canvas for him speak the image he paints on the UFC.

White comes full circle: Irish mob forced him from Boston, now he is back

Dana White still wants to bring MMA in Toronto and New York, but make no mistake about it, this weekend is right up there on the list of his career more satisfactory results. White, joined by UFC VP Marc Ratner and brothers Fertittas, has helped build the mixed martial arts in a sport accepted in most us His native area of Boston Gets his first glimpse of UFC in person with 118 UFC Saturday.

He is returning to its own terms something he didn't get to do in 1995. White argues his move to Las Vegas, where he reunited with his friends from high school, the Fertittas, was not part of the plan.

"... a day in the summer of 1995, while he was at the Centre of teaching a class at the Boston Athletic Club in Southie, two men walked and told him he had to go out with them, says white had, by mafia Ireland.

"The details of what went down were a little cloudy, but was the bottom line: you owe us some money," black told the Boston Globe. " I don't know why they were [expletive] with me, what the real reason was, but to come after me and bust my balls and try to shake me down was a bit strange. They wanted a couple grand from me ... and I said, ' no. ' they said, "get it from your girlfriend."I said, ' She hasn't, o. ' they said, "well, better figure it out.""

A couple of weeks later, his phone rang. the caller told him that till Sunday to pay them, he says, "or we'll kill you."

Triumphant return of white in Boston as a multi-millionaire is something that he never expected after being forced to leave the city.

"When you talk about things like the fate and [expletive] that happens for a reason, if there is proof, then what is?" said White."What are the odds that a child who is riding [expletive] mountain biking around Southie, teaching housewives and businessmen and children as a box, is about to be rocked to the point where he is like, ' this [expletive], I am out of here, ' and leave?

"And then," He adds, suspension, "happen this [expletive]".

It's nice to see that the Globe and the Boston Herald are spreading White's story and the increase of UFC sports casual. whenever the history is written as promotion hits new cities, we always seem to be unveiled a new nugget. it is interesting to hear Bill Baker from Globe speak absolute control of white over promotion.

So not only white leading promoter and creator of deal; he is also, with its fighters, judge and jury. in the past, he has met with some fighters during their remuneration (stars can do more than a half million for a fight; newcomers can make as little as $ 6,000, with another $ 6,000 if they win) and the amount of control has throughout their careers (UFC has no classification system; white organizes the struggles that he thinks that the fans want to see), and that he does not hesitate to cut loose a combatant. on the flip side, white is famous for distributing discretionary bonus for fighters that really throwing down (that he says he went up to one million for a single fight) and welcomed back fighters that once feuded with him.

Enormous discretionary bonus entries are ventilated for years. listen to white give a number is a little unusual. Any guess who got a million?
