Sounds like Thiago Alves can eat and drink everything he wants now. It seems that the approach which was anyway for the massive welterweight. Between battles, Alves would blow up in excess of 200 pounds and then most often scrape by the skin of his teeth or lose weight back down to 170.
May be a case of three strikes and you're out for Alves who miss this weekend, back at UFC 85 and tested positive for the use of diuretics after UFC 66. having heard during the press conference of UFC 117 postfight Dana White, he may not have to worry about more hard edged.
"When you're in the UFC, your job is to make the weight, period. End of story. Believe me, I don't think not wanted Thiago don't take weight. He can not, "said White. "He Could have cut that half a pound? Maybe he couldn't have.Maybe he cut so much weight that would have broken him mentally this last half a pound of cut. This is [expletive]. it is not right for him. it is not right to anyone who keep happening. "
Alves reached at White shortly after struggle to apologize.
"He says, ' I'm sorry about that. I'll come back stronger," White said. "I said, ' yeah, 185, will. "Said, ' No, I want to stay at 170. ' "
White sounds like he has already made the decision to Alves.
"He belongs to 185 pounds," said White. "I feel this way .so [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva feels this way. This is where I'd love to see him. "
After mentioning, white has lost his cool slightly.
"Would love to see him at 185," said White. "Is only [expletive] have [Jon Fitch] come in and train and is [expletive] you guys make weight and boys not gaining weight, especially at this level ".
White said is simply too risky book Alves in large struggles.
"It really screws things up," said White."What if he did beat Fitch tonight to get a title shot, and then do the weight for the title [fight]?I know that he can do [185].I guarantee that you can make 185 and will never have a problem with it. If you can fight to 185, so I don't know what to tell you six too big. "
The White was disappointed by the performance of Alves in loss of Jon Fitch and only managed to find a reason to lackluster effort.
"I don't go to calling him ring rust because when he pulled from this last fight, had a full training camp for [UFC 111]," said White. "Right before the fight, we discovered that he couldn't take. he had to have surgery and then got back on the field. it's not like this guy's been out for a year he looked lethargic tonight. He looked slow. he does not belong to 170. "
The 5-foot-9, Alves can be a bit short for that Division medium, but he would be a nice addition to a short new blood Division.
