Brazil vs. US at UFC dates back to the beginning

? Although focused on the middleweight title fight Champion Anderson Silva vs. Chael Saturday's UFC-117-card can Sun - probably the most virulent outspoken challenger in the promotion's history - and USA hot vs. Brazil. ? for the first time in the promotion's story, are each fight on the main map between an American and a Brazilian.

It is appropriate that modern mixed martial arts owes much of its framework of the Gracie family of Brazil, and the sport become a worldwide phenomenon thanks largely to the promotion and the marketing machine that is the UFC in America.

At Saturday's pre-fight press conference said UFC President Dana white, there was no strategy, to build a map to fighters from the two countries.

"It just kind of worked so", said White."I would love to tell you we are the brilliant and this is how we this thing, but it is just the way which it out am sure it will be fun for Brazil wirkten.Ich your guys win or what to see, but the manner, I think, mixed martial arts is, people from all over the world care about guys from other Ländern.Sie have people in the United States who want to see dos Santos Silva or (junior) or who it is from Brazil win, too.Das is not really one such sport."

Although the sport of mixed martial arts vs suitable fighter, regardless of the country of origin to fighters more than it does to all geographical boundaries if there is a rivalry, USA vs. Brazil the Yankees-red become Sox, Celtics-Lakers, Packers bears or Liverpool Manchester United in the MMA world.
In 221 UFC fights between Brazilian and American Brazil currently holds a 117 102 lead, there two draws.
During lists of the greatest fighters included in the certainly names outside these two countries - Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Filipovic, Bas Rutten, Takanori Gomi, Oleg Taktarov and Georges St-Pierre, name sport's story a few - an overwhelming number of MMA big originate or in Brazil and in the USA

So is not Brazilian that is surprising apart from Americans, were the mainstays in the UFC.157 Total events, including Saturday's UFC 117 map have only 21 Brasilianer - amazing 87% not included.

But go further within the numbers when it comes to the Brazilians faced Americans, including more than five times on Saturday will happen but it is the percentage close, Brazil has a significant lead before the USAIn between Brazilian and American Brazil 221 UFC is currently a 117-102-lead, there were two draws.

UFC pre Zuffa infancy Hall of Famer Royce Gracie led that victories over who won Brazilian kostenlos.Mit like Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn Gracie his first eight fights against American fighters before finally to fight to a draw with Shamrock. 8-1: 1 against US competition was his only loss of Matt Hughes at UFC 60.Gracie out helped Brazil to a 10-1-1 lead against the Americans - although no such official statistics are kept by the UFC.It was not until UFC fight night 2 that it has in the United States its first lead. And the United States went to fight night 7, 48-47-1.But since regained the top on the fight night 8, Brazil still not repented - 101-82-1 at UFC 98, his largest lead in the rivalry up.

Modern, is Silva, which has dominated. He is 8-0 against Americans and it looks nine straight against Sun Saturday machen.Auch on Saturday's-an American fighter against test card, DOS which calls Santos his first career; Rafael dos Anjos, taking clay Guida, is 2: 2 against Americans Hughes is an impressive 5-1 in the UFC opponents, Ricardo Almeida, against U.S. fighters; and Thiago Alves, despite a loss for Jon Fitch earlier in his career, sees his 4-2 record against the States in the pair's rematch added.

Other remarkable Brazilian fighters against Americans in UFC history include Pedro Rizzo (7: 4), Vitor Belfort (6), Gabriel Gonzaga (5-2) and something surprisingly plays given his last exit from promoting, Thales, who is a perfect 5-0 against American competition in the UFC.

On the U.S. side, the two most successful American Brazilian opponents are two Hall of Fame, Chuck Liddell (5-1) and Randy is couture (5-2) .Hughes, fellow Hall of Fame, 4-1, his only loss coming Alves.Und Tyson Griffin is 4-0.Liddell's only loss came in to Mauricio Rua UFC 97.Couture lost Belfort and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

With all his main map Saturday with Brazil vs. the USA fights, the UFC is new - type treten.UFC 58 Canada was called vs. dominant USA waren.Den USA went all eight fights on the map between fighters from these two countries 5-3, under the leadership of then Middleweight Champion rich Franklin's decision on David Loiseau.

But not even a company record for most Brazil US games on a Karte.Diese is deserves honor 117 UFC UFC 85, the six battles between Americans and Brazilian featured.

Welcome to Chael Sonnen map

SAN FRANCISCO - like Chael sunbathing on the UFC 117 press conference demonstrated is the key to any good schtick that ruse maintain that it is not a schtick.

Laugh at your own jokes. Crack a smile. Not nod and wink your way through your Routine.halten you just plowing forward, as if you have no idea that the words coming out of your mouth are completely absurd.

For the better part of a half hour in fisherman's Wharf Hilton on Thursday afternoon, this is the game plan, the Suns gefolgt.Die was exactly time that it was over the Suns of only the straight face could hold.

His insult comedy routine got accused Silva's Manager, Ed Soares immediately, from the ground as he Anderson, the mistranslating one the Silva's comments.

"You not the only one in the room, which speaks Portuguese, although you act like you are," boomed Suns. "It is a difficult picking up this language as it is pig Latin understanding step."

And how that set the tone for the afternoon.

Sure there were some questions for the other fighters. Dos Santos has a chance to talk one candidate bout a little about your number and Jon Fitch heavyweights Roy Nelson and junior and Thiago Alves weighed in with a few comments of your own.But it took long also gave the floor to Sun, and you Rails just curious to hear what he would say next as the media.

"" I really know what respect means,"said Sun somewhere."That sounds like something a child in the street, says after he is always ready, talks about respect your coat and your shoes to nehmen.Jeder, I do not. Listen, I'm here to Kämpfen.Dies is a fist fight to me.You can speak about mixed martial arts, and can bend and do all this shit you see in the movies, but when done with it, and the guy in the shark [-skin] suit gets done say our name and gets the heck out of the ring'm going to be in a fist fight, I on Saturday night in Oakland, California. "

The former welterweight of Champ Matt Hughes was breathless with laughter at this time.

"I have to say this is the funniest press conference that I've ever been," said Hughes.

Even Dana White had to admit that he himself enjoy was.

", He says some funny sh-t.""It's hard not to laugh."

A man, which stopped short of laughter, Silva.Wie was however, Suns itself as "under the weather over trained, under motivated and yet robust enough to beat this guy" described, Silva simply rubbed his eyes and shook his head. When asked whether all the began trash talk by his opponent to annoy him, the Champ shrugged.

"I am to the idiots like him who is sprechen.Es about me fight fought a constant Kampf.Ich idiots around the world have beaten some me, some have not."

So far succeeded Sun's mouth always him mainstream exposure on ESPN SportsCenter and even made an appearance in the Jim Rome show about Lance Armstrong incendiary comments speak Suns still insists he never made.

But if any of the publicity is bad for Sun's image, he is the last who know.

"He said"I never backlash for my comments,","."I receive Lob.In of fact, I ran for public office and 99.6% of the vote."

The Republican was primarily for the Oregon Statehouse where Sun unopposed, asked MMA fighting of Ariel Helwani ran.

"That is correct," said Sun.

And for a second there, it looked almost like he along with the joke laugh war.Fast.

Fighter vs. writer: UFC 117 predictions

OAKLAND - is already a while since my last spectacular battle picking fail, but with UFC 117 just around the corner, veterinarian fighter vs. writer are with Olympic silver medalist and MMA Matt Lindland.

For those of who were this knowledge series already, I have even a single one of these prediction contests to win.Either this means that fighters are all really great at picking fights, or I'm really, really schrecklich.Ich choose to think it's the former, and there is nothing you say, can to convince me otherwise.

Below check out how Lindland and I Saturday night fights going see down.

Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen

Lindland's pick:Sun via TKO. No surprise here. "The law" and Sun have back since young way so Lindland practically obliged to his buddy to get. Still insists he is Sun wear down Silva and stop in the third round of what "an incredible battle."
My pick: Silva via TKO. Not Sun's toughness in question, but I do I believe that he can really threaten Silva. I am surprised when he out of the first makes it.

Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch

Lindland's pick: Fitch via Entscheidung.Lindland said: "I don't know, maybe I like only Jon Fitch.Ich think he is probably my favorite fighter in the UFC besides Chael."Was for a long time. "I am a big fan of him."
My pick:Fitch via Entscheidung.Ich am less Fitch crazy as Lindland, but I think he'll Alves on the mat to control and the decision victory here.

Roy Nelson vs. Junior dos Santos

Lindland's pick:Deceive Nelson about Entscheidung.Eine by an unimpressive physique, Lindland dos Santos Nelson will "come difficult" and surprise never says.
My pick:Dos Santos via TKO.Ich believe not only Nelson can keep dos Santos down and it there, and I like his chances if it remains on the feet.

Matt Hughes vs Ricardo Almeida

Lindland's pick:Almeida via Einreichung.Lindland says the big dog "Kind of a wild-card", but he thanks takes him anyway his Jiu-Jitsu skills.
My pick:Almeida via Einreichung.Hughes is a threat on the legs are not much of a tough ringer, but he and his power and explosiveness has faded in the last years.

Clay Guida more passionate than ever in UFC 117

SAN FRANCISCO - if you missed clay Guida press conference Thursday afternoon's UFC 117, maybe it's because you don't think to check the ground. Many years UFC light showed itself along with the other fighters on the card had not, but he took a seat at the table front.

Instead he grabbed some carpet in the first row, made comfortable and waited for the questions to end so he his Cazadores Tequila spirit award could get by UFC President Dana White.Es was a beautiful moment, but also a bit odd given the circumstances.

"It is kind of different not to answer a combat-related question, so far" Guida MMA fighting said after the press conference."But it is an honour, what I think the most stacked card 2010 ist.Jeder white, as it is when I was in the ring to get." "It will be a battle, war, and it's not pretty be."

If Guida tough easily takes a Brazilian to Rafael dos Anjos - on a three-fight winning strip - he will do so on the televised portion of pay per view. And yet, it is impossible to deny that his Bout is largely Suns and Anderson Silva, and the two number overlooked one candidate attacks elsewhere on the map with all the hype surrounding the title battle between Chael.
That's okay, according to Guida, because when the time comes he'll make his presence known.

"I put my struggle on your own, with only my enthusiasm and my action." See my strike, the introduction with me drooling on me in the cage and stuff belching. "I bring much excitement in my own way."

The last entered Guida in the Octagon in Broomfield, Colorado, in March, he was close enough to its training camp in Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, he could simply ride his beloved RV to fight. He thought it this time around, but a few different left him variables for other modes of transport to decide.

"It's a long distance from Albuquerque to Oakland." It is about fifteen hours."And I thought, you know, Oakland is a great city, but it could be a situation where I come out and the RV is not at all on blocks or the RV it", he joked.

His future goals are what he is about fun.Maybe he had some setbacks recently, he said, but he is still absolutely convinced that a UFC title with the Jackson squad in New Mexico has trained it in his Zukunft.Nun since he finally feel the pieces as you come together, he said.

"I am with the camp, I feel like I was put on this earth."Things happen for a Grund.Und I feel like with Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn is exactly where I his soll.Es sounds cliché, but I feel it now reason believe geschah.Ich I'm kind of my own worst distraction sometimes and it has a while to tell me that fighting is what I do, and it is I who am....I repurposed, sport and more passionate about now than ever before."

If you think it sounds hard to believe that a ball could turn the volume energy as Guida more, they are not allein.Aber while he Insised he is okay with the center of attention in the days before the event, he said, he plans to give fans a reason his way to look for when his train is on Saturday.

"I'm always excited to be in the cage, so I'm not worried about these other Jungs.Ich will go there and raised my hand."

IT Thiago Alves: Weight cut for UFC 117 easiest's ever been

SAN FRANCISCO - at UFC contender Thiago Alves of Wednesday's UFC 117 open workouts on his weight cut focus welterweight missed, knew it, he probably but a minor panic would be set.

"" I had expected,"Alves told MMA fighting on Thursday afternoon.""Once you miss weight, it is the first thing everyone speaks."

The truth was that his weight cut exactly to plan taken after the bulky welterweight who fight with the production of the 170 pound limit in the past. Session from the open workouts was not more as a precaution to ensure there were no surprises on the scales later today.

"[The weight cut] simply been.""It is the easiest time it ever wanted hat.Ich to go only training and Miss because I wanted a day working on it, to ensure that everything is under control and where it should be so I make it easy on me was can I asked the UFC, if I could skip the training and do some real training and lassen.Sie go so many fighters had so it was fine."

Alves showed up to the pre-fight press conference sipping from a small jug water mixed with a touch of juice for vitamin C and he conceded that he did his best, to good spirits not more than a bit despite maintaining starve him before the fruit in his stomach and a long day.

But while it no secret has made, that cut weight his least favorite part of the Division battle, he said this time no more than the learns ordinary aggravation Alves.

"It's [annoying] but it is part of the Auftrags.Sie get used to using ihr.Sie betrachten.Es must only the overall picture a stepping stone is to get where you want to receive."I have no complaints. Of course, I wish I could eat a big meal be home, but this is not the case."You got to do what you have to do."

After the Thursday afternoon said Alves was only eight pounds it away from its target weight for the rematch with Jon Fitch on Saturday night.

Alves persisted despite the fact that since its decision 100 last loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC July fought has not and that he underwent surgery to correct an arteriovenous malformation in his brain in March would be that his second ring rust a hindrance when he shot at Fitch.

"" I'm not at all worried,"said Alves."I have been struggling since I everything is 15 war.Es what which I Weiß.Es is the only place I really comfortable within the Octagon.Das everything I do is fight is, so I'm not worried at all."

UFC 117 main event breakdown: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen

Recently I was talking with an insider of sport about things the nothing with Saturday night UFC 117 Middleweight championship fight, if the topic to Chael enabled Sun for obvious reasons. Finally he is most interesting man in the world, at least until early Sunday morning.

The Insider who has spent time with Suns recently started talking about Sun's mental makeup and some outrageous things that he is in the leadup to his battle with Anderson Silva said. The General wisdom holds that Sun said these things to interest in the fight to drums, or to get in Silva's head, but completely he one other reason schlug.Sonnen, he insisted, a need the stakes so deeply in the fight to invest that he had no other choice but to force to increase in the performance of his life.

Sun is encountered that he started recently graduated sports psychology and had come to the realization that sit in unpleasant situations and overcome success seemed in anticipation to lead. It is a bold, all-in strategy, who upped the entertainment level of support, but it does in a loaded fight?

It goes without saying that a Silva solar style clash which is highest order.Silva (26-4) is a powerful striker, made of long limbs and tip angle is seemingly a bullish nightmares for opponents to verursachen.Sonnen (24-10 1) tenacious wrestler close space and suffocating depending on his enemy ground strikes.
The proof is obviously the numbers where after Compustrike, Silva has only six takedowns in 11 UFC fights, and spent about 78 percent of his battles in the standup position. Now Sun has tried 29 takedowns in his seven UFC bouts, and spent about 63 percent of his time on the mat.

While the style contrast is striking, which is striking a Kontrast.Silva one of the best strikers in recent history MMA connect to 71 percent of his beats according to UFC Zahlen.Er is also very hard to beat. Connect your according to Compustrike from standing opponent to only 32 percent trying.

Suns, is however unlikely to engage in a standup war for longer periods. More likely is it that a plan similar to the following in his upset of Nate Marquardt at UFC 109, where he less than two minutes of the 15 minutes bout on his feet select spent instead on his back repeatedly adopted Marquardt, put where he landed 149 ground strikes over three rounds.

The question is: it can Silva placed there, and if so, he can avoid, delivered?

Because he landed, fights, 72 percent is its takedown tries on his last seven UFC it seems likely that Sun at some point get the fight on the ground. However, there will be no easy task.Silva avoids approximately 83 percent of takedown attempts against him and has only twice in his last six seizures been taken down.

Part this is because many fighters hesitant to commit against him to move days.to regarding contact in danger hit.As we have seen repeatedly with Silva, he appears brightest against people who come directly to him.Forrest Griffin and James Irvin were both aggression mode, if you ko's erlitten.Gerne, that Silva counterstrike and he has no objection to his opponents come to him confidence that your goals, its precise hands, elbows, knees and Shin find.

As a result, Sun is, its lumps to take as he moved in takedown. of course this is nothing new for him.Marquardt got his shots, to.Silva, though, is harder and more accurate.Sun goes to take what he dishes out and soldier on either fill Silva against the fence (where he did, with his Muay Thai) or put it on the ground (where Silva is not rags Jiu-Jitsu).

The truth of the matter is that Sun might be a perfect fight to win, to fight.Based on their finishing stats alone, can easily see you that Sun's last five wins by decision were, but have all three Rounders and nobody in Silva's League. Then again, is there someone in his League?

Despite some Silva's questions recent efforts, drawing criticism from fans, media and even the UFC President, nobody, he knock out or submitting of anyone in the world called the middleweight division home suitable ist.Sonnen has 10 times in his career, including seven times the template verloren.Es are holes in his game to be sure.

Thats not to say, he did not win kann. He's press going to Silva, as he in awhile urged been still nicht.Nach all his proclamations is it clear that he is not going to Silva dance clown will win him lassen.Er in his face, or he scored verlieren.Bereits peace with the fact which might lead it to a unilateral loss just like an impressive victory, so his mind with faith should be clear wear that a constant pressure Silva's approach is down capabilities to limit and/or him in the course of time.

Suns forces to fight Silva, and the master will happily enjoys verpflichten.Er when the fight is brought ist.Es almost than whether the master requires that the challenger in a sign of respect come to him and it is a formula that has resulted in some of his best performances.

With more performance, striking elite and better submissions Silva not has more options than Suns to gewinnen.Erwarten, a fast blowout with his tenacity and grit, Sun should an almost perfect performance to win and that's a lot of someone regarding who has lost 10 times in his career.

Silva via second round template.

Be Chael Sonnen's actual resume secure the one he advertisers?

For several weeks is the MMA world abuzz with the pre fight Sun talk of Chael, were the challenges of Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva for his title at UFC 117 on Saturday.

Sun's speak - or, as it simply his promotion of the fight - terms has wieder.Und ranged from rear to comic outrageous and back it has even in the area that a many people raising collective eyebrow only what is exceeded his motivation.

As when he gave his Twitter denied as mentioned address controversial comments posted address had (at 45: 50-mark on the link), then it was his account. Or this week when he per MMA radio said that Lance Armstrong gave cancer by doping, according to appear then denied on the show about MMA fighting's Ariel Helwani and Jim Rome.

To be sure, Sun talked the talk, regardless of whether it in good fun or just downright unsettling out view of the psychic has been. But what is with his repeated statements that he hit five champions and 10 top-10 fighter?

Call the UFC-117 media last week, Sun claimed "12 guys in the top 10, beat 10 of you beat he fought each master in each organization, the it ever except and that was there because none of these guys would give me my shot."

He has his shot against Silva on Saturday.Suns went on his list of run down, which he has defeated:

"I beat the beat EliteXC Champion.Ich strike force Champion.Ich beat Bodog's Champion.Ich struck the IFL's champion." I hit the WEC champion zweimal.Ich beat every master in each company, that has ever been, and there are not other Middleweight living today can make this claim."

Take a look at the curriculum vitae.

Suns beat mentioned five champions – repeated this claim at pre-fight press conference on Thursday.

These masters are:

• Jason "Mayhem" Miller: Sun's first professional fight more than eight years ago, he beat Miller in a decision.More than four years later, Miller won the icon sport Middleweight champion.

• Jason Lambert: Suns beat "The Punisher" by Gladiator Challenge 20.Lambert decision would go on in the WEC in his pre Zuffa days to fight and win a free light heavyweight title in his second fight for the promotion.Lambert never defended from the belt and vacated by moving in the UFC.

• Trevor Prangley: Suns lost to Prangley in his sixth career Kampf.Es was the first loss of his career. But he Avenged this loss at UFC fight night 4 his first UFC win.Prangley would continue to Bodog fight's middleweight title 15 months later to gewinnen.Er added belts and shark fights light heavyweight belt around his collection - since then the maximum fighting Championship light heavyweight, but it is not clear whether Sun counts his victory over Prangley, as beat three champions.

• Paulo Filho: perhaps Sun's impressive claim he remains the only fighter defeat Filho - but he has a loss to him on his resume.Filho beat Suns at WEC 31 to defend title his WEC Middleweight champion.WEC 36 make weight for revenge not Filho - so that the Suns, a title shot denied wurde.Er won this battle by decision - a victory over a master, but no hardware, to show.

Hazelett vs. Story is one of the undercard fights at UFC 117.This is the UFC 117 live blog for all five of the undercard bouts of UFC 117 from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

A noteworthy bout on the undercard is submission wizard Dustin Hazelett facing prospect Rick Story at 170 pounds. Since losing to John Hathaway in his UFC debut, Story has reeled off three consecutive wins. Hazelett is coming off a loss to Paul Daley in January.

The live blog is below.

Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story

Round 1:

Phil Davis vs. Rodney Wallace

Round 2: Davis goes back to work with the head kick at the start of the round, and Wallace certainly felt that one. He tries to get in close and put a stop to that business, but he ends up pulling Davis on top of him. Davis tries to free his leg from the half-guard but ends up letting Wallace get to his feet. Davis controls him in the front headlock and looks to land a knee before Wallace voluntarily goes back down. Davis resumes the short elbows from the half-guard and considers a kimura. Wallace defends, but Davis uses it to move to north-south. He finishes the round in mount, trapping Wallace's arm and raining down elbows. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Davis.

Round 3: Another head kick from Davis to start the third. It's like clockwork, and yet Wallace is the one guy who hasn't figured out the schedule. Again Davis is successful in getting Wallace to the mat, and again he looks for the kimura, this time from side control. Davis goes to mount, but Wallace soon escapes and gets back to his feet. Davis clinches and trips Wallace back to the mat. Wallace fights off another kimura, but can't get any offense going. He's certainly resilient, but that alone won't win this fight for him. Davis goes to mount in the final minute, but can't stay there. He ends the fight standing over Wallace, waiting for the clock to tick down. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Davis.

Phil Davis def. Rodney Wallace via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

Tim Boetsch vs. Todd Brown

Round 1: Boetsch goes to work with kicks to the body and the head to start this fight. That's a somewhat new look for him. He grabs a single-leg, but Brown hops back against the fence and he lets it go, settling for the clinch instead. Boetsch fires some knees to the body, lulling Brown to sleep a bit, then tosses him to the mat. Brown works back up to his feet and moments later Boetsch staggers him with a right uppercut. He tries to capitalize, but Brown recovers well. They clinch, get separated by the ref, and Brown lands a head kick before getting stung by another hard punch from Boetsch. Blood is flowing freely from Brown's nose as the first round comes to a close. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Tim Boetsch.

Round 2: Brown immediately charges in for a body lock against the fence and gets it. Seems like he's had enough of getting punches in the face by Boetsch. They separate after a minute with no action, and Brown finds a bit of success with his jab. Boetsch keeps looking for the uppercut, but Brown is hip to that by now and trying to steer clear of it. The action has slowed midway through the second and the impatient crowd makes its displeasure known. Boetsch is sticking and moving as best he can, seemingly having little trouble landing the right hand when he wants it. Brown tries a crescent kick in the final seconds, and the result makes you wonder whether he's ever attempted it before. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Boetsch.

Round 3: Brown looks a little more livelier to start the final round, adopting a somewhat strange stance that's hard to figure. He charges in and locks Boetsch up against the fence again, and you know this crowd doesn't like that. Boetsch has a cut near his left eye that's starting to stream a thin line of blood. He shoots for a takedown and puts Brown on his back with relative ease. Boetsch tries for side control, and Brown rolls to his knees and gets back to his feet. Brown attempts a Superman punch, but Boetsch stays out of range. The cut around his eye is getting messier, and he seems like maybe he's content to just survive this round and go to a decision. After a referee restart following a stalled out clinch, Boetsch gets another takedown to seal the deal in the final seconds. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Boetsch.

Tim Boetsch def. Todd Brown via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3).

Charlie Brenneman vs. Johny Hendricks

Round 1: Brenneman's mop of hair is bouncing all over the place to start the fight. It's going to make every one of Hendricks' punches look like a killer. They engage in the center of the Octagon and bang away on each other before Hendricks yanks Brenneman's head down in a front headlock. Brenneman tries to get up and takes a knee to the head. He puts a hand on the mat to stop that nonsense, then finally finds his way out and goes on the attack with a flurry of punches that backs Hendricks up. Brenneman shoots for a double-leg and it forces Hendricks down against the fence, but Brenneman can't quit finish it and put him on his back. They're stalled on the mat next to the fence, and the crowd is only going to sit through so much of this until the boos start. Josh Rosenthal stands them up and Brenneman gets a real takedown and moves to side control before the round ends. MMA Fighting scores the first frame 10-9 for Brenneman.

Round 2:
They trade punches in the center of the cage right off the bat and Brenneman lands a nice right. Hendricks bobs and weaves his way in and staggers Brenneman with a left hand. Brenneman recovers, only to eat another and another. He's on shaky legs and Hendricks senses the finish is near. He keeps coming with that left, and Brenneman battles back bravely. Another left drops him flat on his back and Rosenthal steps in. Brenneman's in no state to complain about the stoppage.

Johny Hendricks def. Charlie Brenneman via TKO (punches) at 0:40 of round two.

Christian Morecraft vs. Stefan Struve

Round 1:
Morecraft bulls his way into a body lock early, struggling a bit to get inside Struve's long reach. Once he has the Dutchman locked up though, it doesn't take long for Morecraft to fling him to the mat. Morecraft thinks about an anaconda choke, but decides to just batter Struve from the top position instead. Struve locks on a triangle and uses it to flip Morecraft over, losing the choke in the process. Morecraft slips out the back and puts Struve down again, nearly getting caught in a guillotine. Morecraft escapes and goes right back to ground-and-pound. Struve isn't defending well against the onslaught of punches from the top. He's lying flat on his back and getting hammered again and again. Herb Dean is taking a close look at it, but Struve scrambles to his knees and gets stuck in a guillotine. It looks tight, but Struve falls to his back and barely survives the round. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Morecraft.

Round 2: Struve snaps a leg kick to slow Morecraft down in the opening seconds. Morecraft keeps coming forward and Struve backs up against the fence. They both unload with punches and Struve lands a right and a left, then hammers Morecraft on the chin with a hard right that jars his mouthpiece loose. Morecraft goes down and Struve pounces on him with a flurry of rights. He's not responding, and Herb Dean has seen enough. The arena explodes as an elated Struve runs around the Octagon and tosses his mouthpiece into the crowd. What a comeback.

Stefan Struve def. Christian Morecraft via TKO (punches) at 0:22 of round two.

Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman

Round 1: Hallman comes straight across the cage and clinches, eating a knee to the body from Saunders on his way in. He tries to use the body lock to get the much taller Saunders down, and after about a minute worth of struggling he finally succeeds. Hallman working from the top in Saunders' half-guard, but he can't do much damage and the crowd is growing restless. Hallman's not having much trouble keeping Saunders on his back. A few short elbows from Hallman find their way in, but Saunders seems more frustrated than damaged. The crowd feels the same way, judging by all the shouts of 'stand 'em up!' Hallman opens up with punches and hammerfists in the final ten seconds, but Saunders recovers guard just before the horn. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Hallman.

Round 2:
Saunders is very careful to keep his distance from Hallman to start the second. He flicks out jabs and body kicks to keep Hallman at bay, and Saunders seems to be finding his rhythm with his strikes. Hallman pushes forward and ducks under a punch to bring Saunders down with a leg trip against the fence. Hallman flattens him out and goes back to work from the top, much to the dismay of the audience. Saunders tries an armbar off his back, but Hallman escapes and gets to side control. There's a cut near Saunders' eye, and the two men exchange some words while in close quarters. I can't quite make out what they're saying, but I'm guessing it's not a conversation about the weather. The round ends with Hallman on top, grinding away again. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Hallman.

Round 3: Again Saunders takes advantage of the fact that each round starts standing, stinging Hallman with a head kick in the opening seconds. Hallman doesn't seem too bothered and he presses onward right into a right hand and another kick to the dome. Now he's had enough and he gets Saunders down for a moment, but can't keep him there. The ref separates them after a period of inactivity against the fence. Saunders opens up with some nice punch and body kick combos. He's got Hallman backpedaling, and almost everything he throws is landing, though none of it with a tremendous amount of power. As Saunders comes forward Hallman pulls him into guard and sweeps him over, landing on top again. They end the round like this, with Hallman landing perhaps his best blows of the fight before the horn. MMA Fighting gives the round to Saunders, 10-9.

Dennis Hallman def. Ben Saunders via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

In his post-fight interview Hallman apologizes to fans and fellow fighters for his comments on 'Inside MMA' alleging rampant steroid use in MMA, calling his own remarks "ignorant."
