UFC 118 of three stars: Edgar, Couture and Diaz

Taking a look at the best and worst of the UFC's first foray into Boston.

N ° 1 star--Frankie Edgar: some samples have ever had to win two battles to be considered a champion, but that's exactly what he had to do Edgar. After beating former champ lightweight B.j. Penn at UFC 112, Edgar was commissioned to do it again to 118. not only did he respond to the challenge without censorship, fought better than he did at 112, beating definitely Penn in all five rounds of their attack.

No. 2 star--Randy Couture: from his bout with James Toney was billed vs boxing MMA, Couture was to defend the honour of MMA. "Captain America" managed work skillfully, taking down Toney and knock on him, before submitting to him.

No. 3 star--Nate Diaz: in his second fight at welterweight, Diaz survived a barrage of Marcus Davis soon in the fight, added a deformity head Davis ' and then guillotine Davis choked up until he passed.Although Diaz said that he wants to return to light welterweight appears as a natural home for him.

Some of the media of the old guard of Boston not impressed by the MMA

MMA is not for everyone. We know that. Too often when people from 50-plus demographic talk sport complain violence and blood. So it profiles like no shocker that there was complaining by veterans writers like Bob Ryan and Dan Shaugnessy. But they took a different position both pointing out that they don't see what it was about all the emotions.

"In all honesty, I'm just saying the truth. The biggest revelation that I got from that night at the garden of expenditure was how astonishingly BOOOOORRING this thing is, "Ryan said of the New England of the NSC" sports Tonight. ""Is the most overrated ... don't understand the appeal remotely. not enough blood, there's enough action."

Ryan said the first fight on pay-per-view between Marcus Davis and Nate Diaz was solid, but he doesn't enjoy the work on the ground in the subsequent struggles.

"The fans don't like the wrestling," said Ryan, who is now an expert after taking on a single card MMA live.

Ryan also knows as knowledgeable each participation in 15,000-plus were.

"There are a sophisticated some martial arts experts who appreciate when there is a well executed martial move to create a slideshow, Yes, that's not the majority, is a small minority," said Ryan.

Apparently, Ryan spoke with a lot of fans to discover what they enjoy.

"People want to see Boxing, slugging it and you want to see when a guy gets punched down his face, that's what gets us excited is the most boring nonsense," said Ryan."Most of the fighting in the first, and granted was described to me as the first practice, wadding, attacks are boys in wrestling matches in which were badly collegiate wrestling with nothing happens."

Who gave Ryan that description? Someone on line press? we would love to know what says MMA regular media the first fights are "batting practice".

That's because it shows how "Sports Tonight the NSA" and "Around the Horn of the ESPN" are sometimes unbearable. the Panel consists of old dudes media that is the word for the fans, but most have not had anything beyond a 10 second conversation with a fan in 10 years.

The crew of the CSN embedded video was mainly pro-MMA. long boxing and NFL scribe Ron Borges has more than given MMA a fair shake. He is the "expert" in this Panel. Unfortunately, you can't count on one hand the number of writers who really have embraced boxing MMA.

Check out the lead host Mike Felger, he describes the fight Davis-Diaz as sort of macabre and then says he loved!

Toney taxation thick as approaches UFC 118

There is no trust, trash talk and combat hype and then there's what James Toney. Toney is pulling out all the big guns for his UFC debut MMA to 118. The Boxer heavy sounds like he has had a career of Floyd Mayweather behind him. Toney (72-44, 6 KOs) said Heavy that he is the undisputed heavyweight boxing King, he is a banger and King of drilling. That's all great but let's go step this struggle against Randy Couture based on certain facts.

Toney is far from the undisputed heavyweight boxing King. Just because you have moved the world MMA doesn't mean you can outright fib on your boxing career. It is true that the Klitschkos have avoided Toney. But can you blame them. This is not fear. Simply there is nothing to be gained, and don't sell these clashes. Toney was at the end of his rope in boxing first began harassing UFC President Dana White to allow him in Octagon. Part of this was also because of its packaging. It is difficult to sell a Toney 235-pound of out-of-shape like a boxer legitimate.Toney is also hard sell because he is not a power puncher. he may call itself the King of drilling but until they dropped the Matthew Greer unknown in his latest boxing match, in fact, he had scored a knockout since late 2003.

This is not intended to wring Toney, because his move to MMA has been a blessing. Got the possibility to introduce the same to a whole new audience.MMA fighters Not quite understand how a fight of hype. And Yes, Toney can be a bit over the top, but he knows the basic concepts of game fight. the same struggle is important, but so is promote sport before affray goes down. correspondence to present some intrigue, but we hope that people don't buy into the hype of Toney too and come away disappointed if he gets dumped on his head and you lose in 60 seconds.

Is it something like a new role for Couture, who is used in every battle he became a part of which was for the last five years in the spotlight in the main event. This is the main event, and so he is not only in the second billed fight, he has also Toney's incessant promotion deal.

Of course, Couture never exactly a loudmouth from the outset been, and it seems just fine with ceding attention Toney which was to hold his tongue one, never exactly.

Lesnar should change his camp for Velasquez

Brock Lesnar may not be all brute force, but there is a science much more than it did in the cage. He's not quite the level game-planning by Randy Couture, but Lesnar has developed and executed some good at the beginning of his career.

Erik Paulson, who is worked with Lesnar heavily over the years, it is expected the choke arm-triangle that he scored the victory on Shane Carwin at 116 UFC. But thinks that Cain Velasquez is going to be a different animal and Lesnar will need his field to implement something new for the 23 October fight in Anaheim.

"He is gonna try to bring in guys of quality and make a game plan," Paulson said fighthubtv.com (Mark 6: 00). "I already know that a game plan that would work for him, [but] it's just a word of advice. Whether or not he follows with that, it is up to him. "

Lesnar works out of his gym in Minnesota and its head coach are former NCAA wrestling champ Marty Morgan. before the fight Carwin, had guys like Chris Tuchscherer, Jon Madsen, Cole Konrad in field along with a quick trip from Randy Couture. These guys are all wrestlers for nature. Paulson suggests that cardio plan the first before the Carwin fight must be changed.

"What most of all it is good must Brock sparring partner who can kickbox and gripper. So he got to get some guys in his field that can throw down with good hits, Takedown good and good takedown defense, "Paulson said."I'm sure it will be the goal for the camp to bring in some good strikers."

Paulson may not seem too bullish on his guy, but he stressed that Velasquez has also a big challenge in front of him.

"There is a large difference with Brock," Paulson said Velasquez the 240-pound. "Has a good fighter, so he can stop the stuff, get out of the stuff, [but] I don't know if he is used to go with something that is as big and powerful as Brock. find someone who is actually equally as aggressive and powerful as Brock [hard]. "

The 265-pound Lesnar defends his UFC heavyweight title against Velasquez at 121 UFC.
